Honolulu Landing area of Old Government Beach Road in Waa Waa is closed due to high surf

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf warning for the north facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 p.m. Tuesday (Feb 23).

Surf along the north facing shores of Hawaii Island is forecast to be in the 25-35 foot range.

Extreme ocean conditions are forecast with ocean surge over the shoreline potentially damaing coastal properties including roadways. Large breaking waves may affect harbor entrances and channels with significant damage possible to docks, piers, ramps and boats.

Entering the water will be very hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face death. Stay well away from the affected shoreline. Take action to protect boats and shoreline property. Be prepared to use alternate routes in case of road closures.
