MEDIA RELEASE

A South Korean man is in police custody following a stabbing at a resort along the South Kohala coast.

At 8:12 a.m. Wednesday (January 27), officers from the South Kohala District responded to a report of a domestic dispute and possible stabbing in a hotel room on the 62-100 block of Kaunaoa Drive.

When police arrived, Fire Department personnel were taking a 52-year-old South Korean man to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital for treatment of puncture wounds to his chest and thigh.

Police determined that the suspect, 59-year-old Kyoung Sun Yoo of Yuseong Gu, South Korea, had confronted the victim while he was in the room with a woman known to the suspect.

Police arrested Yoo at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and abuse of a family/household member. He was then taken to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his left hand. Following his release from the hospital, he was taken to the Kona police cellblock.

A 52-year-old South Korean woman was also taken to the hospital, where she was treated for a head injury and then released.

The male victim remains at the hospital in stable condition.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing the investigation.
