Woman charged in financial crimes

A 41-year-old woman has been charged with various offenses stemming from financial crimes in the Hilo area.

At 12:15 p.m. Friday (January 22), Mitzi G.P. McArthur, who has no permanent address, was arrested at a bank on the 200 block of Kamehameha Avenue on suspicion of second-degree identity theft after she allegedly attempted to procure a loan under another individual’s identity. McArthur also allegedly damaged a door to the bank as she attempted to flee from responding patrol officers.

After conferring with prosecutors, detectives charged McArthur with attempted second-degree theft, second-degree forgery and fourth-degree criminal property damage. Her bail was set at $4,250. She is scheduled to make her initial court appearance Monday afternoon (January 25).

Police are still investigating possible charges of second-degree identity theft and unauthorized possession of personal and confidential information. Those cases will be forwarded to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney upon completion.
