Mamalahoa Highway improvements in Waimea to begin Monday (Jan 4)

The Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works and its contractor Jas W. Glover Ltd., will begin preparatory work on the Māmalahoa Highway starting at Kamāmalu Street and proceeding towards Iona Court on Monday, January 4, 2016 to Friday, January 22, 2016 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. There will be no work on Monday, January 18, 2016 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Beginning on Sunday, January 24, 2016, night work will commence between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. (Sunday evening through Friday morning) and the project is expected to be completed by April 6, 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting. There will be no work on Sunday, February 14, 2016 in observance of Presidents’ Day and Friday, March 25, 2016 in observance of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Day.

The project includes water lateral adjustments; the reconstruction, subgrade, and resurfacing of the roadway and other related improvements.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution as heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone. Alternate lane closures will be in effect during the nighttime construction period.

Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

The Public is invited to attend meetings scheduled twice a month for project updates and information, beginning on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, 6:00 p.m. at the Waimea School Cafeteria.
