Police DUI stats for the week of November 29-December 6, 2015

During the week of November 29, 2015, through December 6, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,007 DUI arrests compared with 1,078 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,425 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,451 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.8 percent.

So far this year, there were 17 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 54.5 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities were related to drugs (6), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
