As of 1 p.m. today (Dec 31) the Department of Health reported an additional 5 confirmed cases since yesterday bringing the total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the outbreak to 195. These cases include 176 residents and 19 visitors.

The closure will allow crews to upgrade transmission lines and equipment to improve system reliability.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will play at 12:15 p.m. Saturday (Jan 2) at the Ward Theatres and will be the first open captioning and audio description movie showings for deaf and visually impaired movie goers under the new law.

A bill introduced by Kauai Representative James Tokioka (Wailua Homesteads, Hanamaulu, Lihue, Puhi, Old Koloa Town, Omao), and signed into law by Governor David Ige will make Hawaii the first state in the nation to accommodate for the hearing and visually impaired at movie theatres statewide.

A 26-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman, both from Keaʻau, were killed Tuesday (December 29) in a three-vehicle traffic collision on the Keaʻau-Pāhoa Road (Route 130) in the area of the 2-mile marker in Keaʻau.

The 26-year-old was identified as Sean Magee of a Keaʻau address. The 86-year-old was identified as Eleanor Benedict, also of a Keaʻau address.
