Police DUI stats for the week of November 16-22, 2015

During the week of November 16, 2015, through November 22, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Twelve of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 964 DUI arrests compared with 1,046 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,354 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,404 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 17 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 54.5 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities were related to drugs (6), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
