Police DUI stats for the week of October 5-11, 2015

During the week of October 5, 2015, through October 11, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 822 DUI arrests compared with 907 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,178 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,230 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.2 percent.

So far this year, there were 16 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 10 during the same period last year, an increase of 60 percent.

To date, nine fatalities related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
