Police DUI stats for the week of September 28-October 4, 2015

During the week of September 28, 2015, through October 4, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 803 DUI arrests compared with 884 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,146 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,195 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.1 percent.

So far this year, there were 16 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with nine during the same period last year, an increase of 77.8 percent.

To date, nine fatalities related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
