A high surf advisory is in effect for east facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii Island through 6 a.m. Monday (Sept 28).

Strong trade winds will drive rough surf along southeast facing shores of Hawaii Island to heights of 6-10 feet into tonight lowering by Monday.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Know your limits and when in doubt, don’t go out.

Boaters should expect recreational surfers and bodyboarders using harbor channels to access surfing areas.

The gale warning for Hawaii has been cancelled. A small craft advisory remains in effect through tonight for all Hawaiian waters until 6 a.m. Monday (Sept 28).
