Police DUI stats for the week of August 31-September 6, 2015

During the week of August 31, 2015, through September 6, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 28 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 721 DUI arrests compared with 804 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,027 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,095 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.2 percent.

So far this year, there were fifteen traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with nine fatalities during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent. (One fatality that occurred on July 18, 2015, reclassified to a medical condition)

To date, nine fatalities related to drugs only (6), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
