A stolen truck has led to the arrest of two men for a robbery August 4 in Kailua-Kona. On that date, a 32-year-old Kailua-Kona man was robbed of his bag in the parking lot of a shopping center near the intersection of Kuakini Highway and Palani Road.

Hawaiʻi Island police have located a Kailua-Kona man who was wanted on an arrest warrant for violating probation and for questioning in other cases. At 4:20 a.m. Wednesday (September 30), Kona Patrol officers arrested 25-year-old Tevita Afu in Hōlualoa and charged him with violating probation.

Captain Cook man is charged with stealing a car and other items

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a Captain Cook man with five offenses after a car and other items were stolen from a home in Kailua-Kona. On Sunday (September 27) a 2004 Audi sedan was stolen from a locked garage at a home on the 73-4300 block of Halemau Street. Other items were also taken.

Hawaiʻi Island police are warning the public about a telephone utility scam.

A Hilo business reported Wednesday (September 30) that it received a phone call from someone posing as a representative of the local electric company. The caller claimed the business’ electric bill was overdue and said a utility truck was down the road and the electricity would be shut off unless the bill was paid immediately.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday (September 29) on the body of a man found floating in Hilo Bay last week has ruled out foul play in his death.

The medical examiner determined that the unidentified man died from asphyxia due to drowning. Detectives are still attempting to confirm his identity so they can notify his family.

KITV resumes over the air broadcasts in Hilo

Due to a problem with their transmitter in Hilo for Over The Air (OTA) television broadcasts KITV was off the air for a few days last week. Their channels 4-1 and 4-2 were out of service for three days. Cable TV and Satellite TV subscribers were not affected by this OTA outage.

Search crews spent a third day Tuesday (Sept 29) searching for a missing fisherman at the Kaloli Point area of Hawaiian Paradise Park.

A witness saw the fisherman swept off the shoreline cliff by high surf conditions about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The man was last seen floating in the water about 50 meters offshore.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a robbery Tuesday morning (September 29) in Downtown Hilo.

In response to a 6:02 a.m. call, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to the 200 block of Kamehameha Avenue, where a 47-year-old woman reported that she had been sleeping in the doorway of a business when a man tugged on her purse. During a struggle, he kicked her and then fled on foot with the purse.
