Hawaii County Civil Defense 7 a.m. audio message on former Tropical Storm Ela

At 5 a.m. Friday (July 10) the remnants of Ela were located about 407 miles east-northeast of Hilo and moving in a west-northwest direction at 15 mph.

Ela currently has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Halola (formerly Tropical Depression One-C) and Tropical Depression Two-C are both south of Hawaii, gaining strength but are tracking to move past the main islands.

There are no watches or warnings due to these weather systems.

As former Tropical Storm Ela moves parallel to the islands, it will act to cut off the trade winds. Over the weekend expect conditions to be hot and humid with localized heavy showers and a slight chance of thunderstorm. Heat indices could reach 100ºF (38ºC); this means that it could feel like 100ºF (38ºC)! This type of weather could extend into Monday (July 13) as another batch of very moist tropical air is forecast to move over the state.

Hurricane season in Hawaii runs from June through November.
