Police DUI stats for the week of June 29-July 5, 2015

During the week of June 29, 2015, through July 5, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Ten of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 513 DUI arrests compared with 636 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 759 major accidents so far this year compared with 810 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.3 percent.

So far this year, there have been 13 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven during the same period last year, an increase of 85.7 percent.

To date, seven fatalities were related to drugs (4), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
