Kona man in critical condition, flown to Oahu for care due to cut arm

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaiʻi Island police have released a Kailua-Kona woman who was arrested early Monday in connection with a domestic dispute that sent a man to the hospital in critical condition.

On Tuesday afternoon (June 23), after conferring with prosecutors, detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section released 18-year-old Synise Santos, who was being held at the Kona police cellblock, pending further investigation.

A 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man was taken to Kona Community Hospital late Sunday (June 21) with a laceration to his left forearm. He was later transferred to Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu, where he remains in critical condition.

At 10:05 p.m. Sunday (June 21), Kona Patrol officers were at Kona Community Hospital for an unrelated case when the man arrived in a private vehicle and was taken to the emergency room.

Investigation revealed that he had received the injury during a domestic altercation at a home on Awakea Street in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly after midnight, officers arrested Santos at the scene on suspicion of first-degree assault and abuse of a family/household member.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.

Sounds a lot like “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”. Hope the man is OK.

He is receving maximun treatment, still in critical state. His sisters have not seen his eyes open. Prayers needed.
