Police DUI stats for the week of June 1-7, 2015

During the week of June 1, 2015, through June 7, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 447 DUI arrests compared with 539 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 649 major accidents so far this year compared with 696 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.8 percent.

So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven during the same period last year, an increase of 57.1 percent.

To date, four fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
