Brushfire in Kona burns land early Saturday morning (May 23)

Hawaii County firefighters answered a 2:48 a.m. alarm Saturday (May 23) to Kaiminani Drive in Kona about 1/4 mile above Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Hwy 19) for a brushfire.

Crews arrived to find a brushfire next to the north side of the roadway. Firefighters contained the blaze, got it under control and the fire was declared out at 3:40 a.m. Part of the roadway was closed to traffic due to firefighting operations.

There were no injuries reported and no structures were involved in the 1/4 acre fire. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
