Fire in Green Sands Subdivision 90 percent contained Thursday (May 14)

This is a brush fire information update for 8:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2015.

The Hawaii Fire Department reports that the brush fire in the Green Sands Subdivision in Ka’u continues to burn and remains approximately 90% contained at this time.

Fire and emergency personnel are on scene and working to extinguish the fire and will remain on scene throughout the evening and night. All highways and major roadways remain open however some roads within the subdivision are closed and limited to local traffic only.

Since residential water lines have been repaired, water tanker service at the Green Sands Park has been suspended. The Waiohinu water spigot is open and operational for water needs.

    With fires still smoldering around them, Green Sands residents spent the last 3 days repairing their waterlines and helping others in need….while thieves were busy breaking into homes and stealing property.
