Police DUI stats for the week of April 6-12, 2015

During the week of April 6, 2015, through April 12, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 271 DUI arrests compared with 376 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 395 major accidents so far this year compared with 472 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.3 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with four during the same period last year, an increase of 75 percent.

To date, four fatalities were related to drugs (4), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
