Police DUI stats for the week of March 9-15, 2015

During the week of March 9, 2015, through March 15, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 200 DUI arrests compared with 271 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 287 major accidents so far this year compared with 352 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.5 percent.

So far this year, there have been five traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with three during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.

To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (2), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
