During the week of March 2, 2015, through March 8, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 180 DUI arrests compared with 248 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 258 major accidents so far this year compared with 326 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20.9 percent.
So far this year, there have been five traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with three during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.
To date, one fatality was related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (0).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
