Police DUI stats for the week of February 23-March 1, 2015

During the week of February 23, 2015, through March 1, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 160 DUI arrests compared with 210 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 219 major accidents so far this year compared with 291 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24.7 percent.

So far this year, there have been five traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with three during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.

To date, one fatality was related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
