The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa above 12,500 feet until 6 a.m. Monday (March 2).

Snowfall up to three inches and freezing fog is forecast for the summits. Winds are coming from the southwest at 10-15 mph with temperatures in the upper 20s. Visibility is under half a mile in the clouds.

Travel to the summits by foot or by vehicle will be dangerous in these conditions.

Mauna Kea summit access road is closed above the Visitor Information Station at 9,200 feet due to ice on the summit roads.
