The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind warning until 6 p.m. Saturday (Feb 21) for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
Winds are coming from the west at 35-60 mph with localized gusts over 80 mph on summit areas obve 11,000 feet in elevation.
The strong winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution while driving. The winds can also forcefully swing doors open or shut so use caution when opening or closing vehicle doors.
Mauna Kea summit access road is closed above the Visitor Information Station due to the windy conditions.
