Hawai‘i Electric Light crews made significant progress on restoring power to customers who lost electricity as a result of recent high winds.

Crews from Hilo, Kona and Waimea restored power to approximately 500 customers in portions of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Orchidland, Hawaiian Beaches, Leilani Estates, Lanipuna, and Hawaiian Acres.

As of 4 p.m., an estimated 1,100 customers remain without power in portions of Ainaloa, Hawaiian Beaches, Nanawale, Leilani Estates, Lanipuna, and Hawaiian Acres. Due to extensive damage caused by fallen trees, electric service for customers in Nanawale, Leilani Estates, and Lanipuna is expected to be restored by Wednesday.

“We know that being without electricity for an extended period of time is frustrating and difficult,” said Kristen Okinaka, Hawai‘i Electric Light spokesperson. “We want to thank customers for their patience and support.

“Our employees and partners have been working tirelessly both in the field and behind the scenes to clear trees and debris, repair infrastructure, and safely restore electric service as quickly as possible,” Okinaka said. “Safety always is our top priority.”
