Honomu man charged with second-degree murder in stabbing death

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged one person and released three others in connection with a fatal stabbing in Hilo on Tuesday (January 20).

At 11 a.m. Saturday (January 24) detectives charged 22-year-old Garrett Dahlin of Honomū with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $250,000. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (January 26).

Friday evening (January 23), 22-year-old Lilly Costa of Honomū was released from police custody pending further investigation. Saturday morning 28-year-old Brittne Morgan and 21-year-old Aaron Figueroa, both of Honomū, were released pending further investigation.

Forty-three-year-old Brian Whetten, who had no permanent address, was found Tuesday with stab wounds in a drug store parking lot off KÄ«lauea Avenue. He died later at Hilo Medical Center.
