There’s only a little time left for Toyota Hawaii’s 2015 Dream Car Art Contest, open to all students age 15 years and younger statewide.

Entrants can create original, hand-drawn illustrations of “Your Dream Car” and finalists will receive an iPad Mini or cash prize, and will be submitted to the WorldCompetition, where they could be selected to receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan to attend the final awards ceremony in the summer of 2015.

Entry forms and rules are available online at www.ToyotaHawaii.com and at all Toyota Hawaii Dealerships.

Important Details:

“Last year, we received more than 500 entries from local students, and two young artists’ award-winning drawings were selected for the world contest,” said Glenn Inouye, Toyota Hawaii Senior Vice President. “This year, we hope to receive 1,000 entries, as we invite all local keiki to share ideas about the future of transportation by drawing their dream cars. We at Toyota believe in nurturing the creativity of the next generation of great inventors, thinkers, and dreamers.”

Emma Thain’s “Construct-O-Mobile” and Teah Laupapa’s “Introducing the Pocket Car” artwork earned them both trips to Japan last year. The Hawaii finalists were two of only 30 young artists from around the world chosen as a 2014 World Finalist.

Public voting

All eligible artwork will be automatically entered into the People’s Choice competition where family, friends, and fans of the Toyota Hawaii Facebook page will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite entries between Feb. 23 and March 10.

People are encouraged to vote daily, and each vote will be automatically tallied. The artwork with the most votes in each age category at the end of the competition will be entered for final judging in the local competition.

In addition, the entrant with the most votes in each age category for the People’s Choice competition will receive $100.

Celebrity judges

In March, the artwork of nine local finalists will be selected by a distinguished local judging panel and will be submitted to the Toyota Dream Car World Contest in Japan.

Last year’s international contest attracted more than 600,000 entries from 70 countries and regions.

The Hawaii celebrity judging panel includes Department of Education Art in Public Places Artist in Residence Resource Teacher Evan Tottori, Honolulu Museum of Art School Director Vince Hazen, KHON2’s Justin Cruz, Hawaii News Now’s Grace Lee, Shriners Hospitals for Children – Honolulu’s Director of Public Relations Mahealani Richardson, and Toyota Hawaii’s Glenn Inouye.
