The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf warning for west facing shores of the Bisland until 6 p.m. Thursday (Jan 22).
Surf is forecast to be in the 15-20 foot range along west facing shores of the Big Island. The surf will peak on Wednesday and gradually diminish on Thursday.
Coastal areas can expect large breaking surf, significant shore breaks and dangerous longshore and rip currents making entering the water extremely hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death. Inexperienced persons should remain well away from the shoreline in the affected areas. Property owners should take action to protect shoreline property, motorists should be prepared for possible road closures.
Boaters should expect recreational surfers and bodyboarders using harbor channels to access surfing areas.
A small craft advisory is in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday (Jan 22) for all Hawaiian waters except Maalaea Bay.
