Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:30 p.m. alarm Saturday (Jan 17) to Niikai Gulch off Kaiwiki Road in Hilo to rescue an injured woman.

A 23-year-old woman slipped and fell on a steep river bank at the base of a 50 foot waterfall where she had been swimming. The woman received an ankle injury from the fall which prevented her from getting out of the difficult terrain.

Ground crews reached the woman and treated her until Chopper One was able to airlift her from the area. She was taken via medic unit to Hilo Medical Center for treatment.
