‘Fatal Vows’ features Big Isle murder case (Jan. 17)

MEDIA RELEASE

On Saturday, Jan. 17, Investigation Discovery is featuring the Hilo homicide of Cathy Esteves Dingle on its hit series FATAL VOWS.

The show debuts at 4 p.m. on Channel 1336 and repeats twice in the evening.

When marriages fail, divorce can turn ugly – even, deadly: what was once a passionate union becomes plagued by spite, greed, betrayal and, literally, backstabbing.

Investigation Discovery’s newest series, FATAL VOWS, takes a new twist on tales of love turned lethal. Guiding viewers through these crimes of passion are Dr. Brian Russell, an attorney as well as a forensic and clinical psychologist, and Stacy Kaiser, a licensed psychotherapist and relationship expert.

In each episode, the two experts examine the couple featured and provide analysis on marriages that break down to the point that divorce and murder collide.

It’s 1990 in a provincial town in the East Asian nation of the Philippines. Steve Dingle, a Filipino immigrant who lives in Hawaii, arrives back in his homeland for an arranged marriage to a woman he’s never met. But instead of his intended bride, Steve falls for Cathy Esteves, the poor but stunning granddaughter of a family friend.

He marries Cathy and brings her back with him to live in Hawaii, where they’re soon raising four children. But the relationship gets into trouble as Cathy discovers a sex tape of Steve and another woman.

Their marriage seems headed for divorce, as Steve defiantly vows to continue the affair. But infidelity works both ways.

And in the secretive Filipino community, suspicions of marital betrayal boil up like the volcanoes beneath their Hawaiian paradise… leading to horrific violence and murder.

This episode includes interviews with:

· Castly Dingle, Steve & Cathy’s son

· Lydia Esteves, Cathy’s mother

· Adelaida Gebin, Cathy’s aunt

· Kurtis Gebin, Cathy’s cousin

· Blossom Gebin, Cathy’s cousin-in-law

· Karin Stanton, editor, Hawaii 24/7

· Darien Nagata, deputy prosecuting attorney, County of Hawaii

· Derek Morimoto, detective sergeant, Hawaii County Police Department

· Dr. Brian Russell, forensic psychologist & attorney

Each hour-long episode of FATAL VOWS features interviews with family, friends, law enforcement and potential victims of the crime, while Kaiser and Russell provide analysis on these marriages that break down to the point that divorce and murder collide.
