During the week of December 29, 2014, through January 4, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 11 DUI arrests compared with 12 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been seven major accidents so far this year compared with 24 during the same period last year, a decrease of 70.8 percent.
So far this year, there have been zero traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with one fatality during the same period last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
