On Wednesday (Dec 17) body of a 13-year-old boy who went missing after jumping into the ocean at Hapuna Beach Sunday was recovered.
The boy jumped from 15-foot cliff into the ocean but never resurfaced according to his friends. Coast Guard and HFD crews spent three days searching for the teen with helicopters, boats and divers. The Coast Guard Cutter Kiska assisted in the search.
At 12:30 p.m. Wednesday bystanders in the area gave searchers a potential lead and crews found the teen’s body lodged in a cave system with limited access from above the ground on the South end of the bay. Crews accessed the cave system and the body was recovered at 1:32 p.m. and was turned over to police for identification.
