Police DUI stats for the week of December 8-14, 2014

During the week of December 8, 2014, through December 14, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Three of the drivers where under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,103 DUI arrests compared with 1,270 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,468 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,283 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.4 percent.

So far this year, there were 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 25 fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 56 percent.

To date, six fatalities related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
