The group she was hiking with needs to take responsibility for her death. In every hiking group, there needs to be someone designated as a ‘sweep’, who does not allow anyone in the group to fall behind or divert their route from the rest of the group. If they do, the sweep calls out to the hike leader to stop.

Many hiking accidents and fatalities are caused by someone within the group falling behind or being separated from a group. A few simple rules can avoid these tragedies.

All the best to Lindsey’s family and friends.
