Police DUI Stats for the week of November 17-23, 2014

During the week of November 17, 2014, through November 23, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 1,048 DUI arrests compared with 1,189 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,391 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,206 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.3 percent.

So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 24 during the same period last year, a decrease of 54.2 percent.

To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
