Police DUI stats for the week of October 27-November 2, 2014

During the week of October 27, 2014, through November 2, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 31 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 975 DUI arrests compared with 1,093 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,314 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,145 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.8 percent.

So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 23 during the same period last year, a decrease of 52.2 percent.

To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
