Police arrest man in connection with knife attack on two women

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a South Kohala man in connection with an altercation that turned violent in Waikoloa on Sunday night (October 12).

Police received an 8:19 p.m. report that a man was assaulting two women in the parking lot of Waikoloa Highlands Center. Responding officers arrived to find the participants had left the scene. A witness reported that the man had a knife.

Police determined the identity of the man as 34-year-old Aaron Nakamoto. They located him at his Waikoloa home and discovered he had facial injuries and a wound to his leg. Police called for an ambulance, which took Nakamoto to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital.

Officers also located the two women, both from Waikoloa, at the hospital. Police determined that an argument in the parking lot had turned into a physical fight.

One of the women, age 22, suffered a laceration to her left arm and a wound to her chest. She was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital that night.

The other woman, also age 22, suffered lacerations to her face, throat and neck. She was treated for her injuries and released the next day.

Nakamoto was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital at 1:30 a.m. Monday (October 13). Upon his release, he was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.
Police have also initiated an assault investigation in connection with Nakamoto’s injuries.
