Police DUI stats for the week of August 18-24, 2014

During the week of August 18, 2014, through August 24, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 772 DUI arrests compared with 817 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,014 major accidents so far this year compared with 891 during the same period last year, an increase of 13.8 percent.

So far this year, there have been nine traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 21 during the same period last year, a decrease of 57.1 percent.

To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
