Kona man arrested in attempted murder investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police have initiated an attempted murder investigation in connection with a shooting Thursday evening in South Kona.

At 6:35 p.m. Thursday (July 3), Kona Patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 83-5300 block of Highway 11 in Hōnaunau.

At a house being rented to several tenants, police found a 52-year-old resident with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Fire/rescue personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Police arrested another tenant at the scene, 44-year-old Monte Moreau of Hōnaunau, on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
