Police DUI stats for the week of June 16-22, 2014

During the week of June 16, 2014, through June 22, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 32 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 600 DUI arrests compared with 609 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 737 major accidents so far this year compared with 663 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 18 during the same period last year, a decrease of 61.1 percent.

To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
