Police DUI stats for the week of June 9-15, 2014

During the week of June 9, 2014, through June 15, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 568 DUI arrests compared with 595 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 710 major accidents so far this year compared with 640 during the same period last year, an increase of 11 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 18 during the same period last year, a decrease of 61.1 percent.

To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
