Police DUI stats for the week of June 2-8, 2014

During the week of June 2, 2014, through June 8, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 545 DUI arrests compared with 571 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 684 major accidents so far this year compared with 618 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.7 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 17 during the same period last year, a decrease of 58.8 percent.

To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
