Police DUI stats for the week of May 26-June 1, 2014

During the week of May 26, 2014, through June 1, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 18 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 524 DUI arrests compared with 554 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 665 major accidents so far this year compared with 593 during the same period last year, an increase of 12.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 16 during the same period last year, a decrease of 56.3 percent.

To date, four fatalities were related to drugs (2), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
