Hikers rescued off summit of Mauna Loa Sunday (June 1)

Fire/rescue crews answered a 5:44 a.m. alarm Sunday (June 1) for a report of missing hikers on the summit of Mauna Loa.

Two teenage boys were reported to have separated from their parents while hiking on Mauna Loa summit at 6:10 p.m. Saturday (May 31). Rescue crews searched the mountain with a helicopter and two ground teams. One of the ground teams found the hikers and brought them back to the parking area where their parents were.

There were no injuries reported and all fire/rescue units were able to return to their stations by 9:10 a.m.
