Fire/rescue crews responded to a 7:13 p.m. alarm Thursday (May 8) to 18-1263 Kona Street in Mountain View for a structure fire.

Firefighters joined police, who were already on scene, in finding a home engulfed in flames with a car 10 feet away from it and power lines to the home down.

The occupant who escaped the blaze said he was deep frying food when the oil caught fire and spread to the home.

Firefighters fought the fire buring the 36×20 foot home and prevented the fire from spreading to brush 10-20 feet away from it. Crews had the fire uner control by 7:45 p.m. and it was declared out at 8:30 p.m.

The home was considered a loss at $128,000 and the occupant was being assisted by the American Red Cross.

There were no injuries reported and no roadblocks.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
