Police DUI stats for the week of April 14-20, 2014

During the week of April 14, 2014, through April 20, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 407 DUI arrests compared with 405 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 491 major accidents so far this year compared with 404 during the same period last year, an increase of 21.5 percent.

So far this year, there have been four traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 12 during the same period last year, a decrease of 66.7 percent.

To date, three fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (1), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
