Firefighters answered a 5:23 p.m. alarm for a structure fire at 16-2000 Hopue Road in Hawaiian Acres Friday (April 18).
The East Keaau volunteer firefighters were first on the scent to fight the blaze which had engulfed the 16×10 foot cabin style home and nearby brush surrounding it. Firefighters had the fire under control 15 minutes after arriving on scene with the fire declared out at 5:50 p.m.
The residents said they had just arrived home and heard a couple of explosions and saw smoke coming from the cabin. The structure was unoccupied during the fire and was a total loss along with its contents. The Red Cross is assisting the residents.
The estimated value loss in the fire was $16,000 for the unpremitted cabin and contents, there were no injuries. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
