Police DUI stats for the week of March 24-30, 2014

During the week of March 24, 2014, through March 30, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 327 DUI arrests compared with 334 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 409 major accidents so far this year compared with 330 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.9 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, a decrease of 72.7 percent.

To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
