Police DUI stats for the week of March 10-16, 2014

During the week of March 10, 2014, through March 16, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 280 DUI arrests compared with 266 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 340 major accidents so far this year compared with 288 during the same period last year, an increase of 18.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 10 during the same period last year, a decrease of 70 percent.

To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
