Mizuguchi, Matayoshi, Casamina to chair Schatz’s Senate campaign

MEDIA RELEASE

Honolulu, HI – Norman Mizuguchi, the former President of the Hawai‘i State Senate, Mary Matayoshi, a lifelong educator who blazed trails in continuing education and volunteerism, and Roland Casamina, a businessman with a distinguished record of giving back to the community, will serve as Co-Chairs for Senator Brian Schatz’s campaign.

In making the announcement, Senator Schatz noted, “These are three leaders who have in different ways contributed remarkably to the betterment of Hawai‘i. We are strengthened by their leadership and counsel not only in the campaign but in all our actions to make good things happen for our state and country.”

“It is critical to the future of Hawai‘i that we return Brian Schatz to the United States Senate where he can continue to fight for an economy that works for everyone. As chairman of two Senate subcommittees that are vital to Hawai‘i’s economy, he is leading on issues that will improve Hawai‘i’s future. He has proven that he is the effective choice to deliver for Hawai‘i,” said Norman Mizuguchi.

“As a husband and father of young children, and with three generations living together in his home as many Hawai‘i families do, Brian not only understands the issues Hawai‘i families face, he lives them. He has fought to protect Social Security and Medicare benefits and been a consistent leader on our Hawai‘i values like equal pay for women and a woman’s right to choose,” added Mary Matayoshi.

“Senator Schatz has proven he is a strong, effective fighter for Hawai‘i in the Senate. He already has leadership positions that are important for Hawai‘i where he is working to create good-paying jobs and promote the development of clean energy to make Hawai‘i more sustainable,” said Roland Casamina.

Aiea Democrat Norman Mizuguchi served in the Hawai‘i State Legislature for 26 years including six years as President of the Senate. Mary Matayoshi pioneered Continuing Education and Community Services at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo as well as leading the State Volunteer Services Office and the Volunteer Resource Center of Hawai‘i. Roland Casamina is a self-made businessman and a founding President of the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu.
